Industry Trend Analysis - Renault Clio Boost To Lift Production Outlook - MAR 2017

BMI View : The production boost from Slovenia ' s sole car manufacturer has prompted us to revise up our already upbeat outlook for passenger car production, which will now grow 11.2% in 2017, up from our previous forecast of 9.0% growth.

In January 2017, Revoz, the Slovenian unit of French carmaker Renault, announced that it expects production of a face-lifted Clio model, which begins in March 2017 at its Novo Mesto plant, to help boost output by 30%. The company, one of Slovenia's largest exporters, also makes Renault Twingo and Smart Forfour models.

Given that Revoz is the only car manufacturer in Slovenia, we have lifted our passenger car production outlook to reflect this expected addition to the automaker's output levels. We therefore forecast passenger car production to grow 11.2% in 2017, up from our previous forecast of 9.0% growth. Furthermore, we now expect average annual growth of 13.9% in passenger car production over our 2018-2021 forecast period.
