BMI View : Foreign automakers gearing up to tap into the growing demand for electric vehicles in China dominate s this quarter ' s investment round-up. Pakistan ' s automotive landscape is also continuing its transformation with Khalid Mushtaq Motors announcing assembly plans.

In BMI's regular round-up of production investments, we track the latest projects from the production side of the industry and analyse regional trends that we see developing. In doing so, we hope to build a picture of any potential hubs that may be developing, as well as company strategy in terms of production bases and export programmes.

In BMI's latest investment round-up of countries in Asia, we have identified eight new investment projects that were either announced or inaugurated in Q417, down from the 13 projects identified for the same period in 2016. However, the project values, which totalled almost USD14.5bn (for those providing financial details), were up by 208.5% y-o-y compared to the same period last year. China topped the rankings with USD13.5bn worth of investment projects announced, continuing the electric vehicle (EV) focused theme that we highlighted in last quarter's round-up ( see ' EV Projects Dominate Asia Investment Landscape ' , November 1 2017).
