Industry Trend Analysis - Autos Investment Round-Up: China And India Lead Bumper Investment - JUNE 2017

BMI View: Asia ' s significant investment activity in Q117 is in line with its top ranking in our Autos Production RRI. China and India will remain the most popular investment destinations but considerations such as tax policies will see newer production bases developing.

In BMI's regular round-up of production investments, we track the latest projects from the production side of the industry and analyse trends that we see developing on a regional basis. In doing so, we hope to build a picture of any potential hubs that may be developing, as well as company strategy in terms of production bases and export programmes.

Asia has proven to be one of the most active regions for production investment in Q117, with projects totalling at least USD3bn, but the actual value will be more as several projects were announced without a value. This underlines the findings of our Autos Production Risk/Reward Index (RRI), where Asia is the top ranking region with a score of 58.1 out of a possible 100. Although the majority of projects are based in China, which again validates that country's position at the top of the Asia Autos Production RRI, there is a good geographical spread of investment in this round-up, marking the growth of new production bases.
