Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers in the EU are coming under increasing regulatory pressure from the EU's REACH (regulation, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals) directive, which came into force in June 2007. BMI believes that automotive suppliers, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), will be adversely affected by REACH, which will add costs at a time when OEMs are demanding cuts in parts and components
