The UAE is setting the pace for automotive sales in the Middle East, with high rates of growth particularly in the SUV and premium segments, according to BMI's latest UAE Automotive Report. BMI's forecast of 13.8% is confirmed by Q1 results, with Nissan, Kia, Mercedes Benz and General Motors all reporting double-digit growth. GM attributed its record Q1 2007 sales in the Middle East to new model launches in the UAE, where sales were up 17%.
