Despite stronger than expected economic growth in Q406, Japanese vehicle sales during calendar year 2006 declined by 2% y-o-y. BMI's latest Japan Automotives Report highlights the importance of the mini vehicle segment, including mini trucks, in supporting overall vehicle sales, as the segment went on to meet the forecast of the Japan Mini Vehicles Association in surpassing the two million unit mark. Data showed that even slightly larger vehicles were out of favour, as the small car segment contracted by 8.7% y-o-y. Output in the industry fared better, however, surpassing BMI's 2006 forecast of 10.933mn units to reach 11.484mn. The
