German factory orders caught the market off guard in October, dipping 1.1% on the back of lower domestic demand for cars and trucks, among other factors. Orders had already fallen 3.3% in September and the slide in October came when economists were in fact forecasting an upturn of 1.1%. The current strength of the German economy, however, has left observers relatively unperturbed by the fall.
