Despite being based in Japan, Nissan's sales in the rest of the region are relatively low, particularly compared with a region such as North America, which is much more removed, geographically speaking, from the country's headquarters. Asia and Oceania are covered by Nissan's 'Others' region, which also includes the Middle East, Mexico, Latin America and South Africa. In the first half of FY2006, from April to September, the 'Others' region accounted for 17% of sales, compared with 38% for Japan and 31% for North America.
