Australia's new vehicle market has lost some of the momentum gathered in 2005, with August representing the fifth consecutive month of falling sales. Sales for the month declined by 5.2% y-o-y to 81,661 units, compared with 86,177 units in August 2005, while combined sales for the year to date are 3.4% off the pace of 2005 at 642,383 units. Consequently, BMI's recently published "Australia Automotives Report" reflects the market contraction with a downward revision of its sales forecast for 2006 to 1.01mn units.
