In an attempt to turn around its flagging North American business, US carmaker Ford has decided to hit the gas pedal on its restructuring plan. Initially planning to cut 30,000 jobs and 12 factories in the region by 2012, the company will now aim to achieve the job cuts by 2008, while closing 16 plants within the same period. Buyout and early retirement offers will be made to all of the 75,000 hourly workers represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, while around 14,000 salaried employees are also facing
