Changes in tariff structure and the anticipation of new models to hit the Vietnamese market have resulted in sluggish sales of locally-built vehicles for the first half of 2006, down 22% y-o-y. The signs are good for a second-half recovery as June already marked the third consecutive month of growth, although BMI remains cautious in its recently published "Vietnam Automotives Report", forecasting a 10% y-o-y decline in sales for the year.
