BMW has announced plans to invest GBP200mn in the UK's car industry. The carmaker has decided to transfer the production of engines for its next-generation Mini from Brazil to Birmingham. The investment comes on top of the GBP30mn the UK automotive industry association SMMT says BMW has already ploughed into its Hams Hall engine plant to develop fuel-efficient petrol engines for the forthcoming Mini.
