A number of carmakers in India have launched, or have announced their intention to launch, models, which are powered by either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquid petroleum gas (LPG). In the face of rising oil prices, manufacturers are adapting their strategy to both save the customer money and enable their models to qualify for tax breaks. According to India's Business Standard daily, the Indian government is mulling a reduction in excise duty on small cars powered by alternative fuel from 24% to 16%.
