Romanian Growth Slows

In the first five months of 2006, Romanian vehicle sales rose 7.1% y-o-y to 109,236 units. Passenger car sales rose 9.9% to 93,968 units, while sales of commercial vehicles dropped 6.2% to 14,703 units (largely due to a steep decline in light commercial vehicles sales) and bus sales dropped 28.0% to 565 units. The level of growth was lower than in 2005, when sales grew 41.7% to 256,414 units. Sales growth in January-May follows the trend we forecast in the previous quarter's report, when we forecast 5.5% growth in sales, a forecast that we have maintained this
