The Mercedes-Benz brand is part of the DaimlerChrysler group, formed in 1998 following the merger of Germany's Daimler Benz and the US-based Chrysler. While Mercedes-Benz cars are leaders in the premium car market, the Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses are global market leaders. The Mercedes-Benz Car Group includes Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, Maybach and SLR McLaren and in Q1 2006 represented a third of DaimlerChrysler's global revenue. However, its operating losses amounted to EUR678mn in the quarter.
