Dubai Ports has reported that re-exports of automotive parts and accessories grew by more than 40% in 2005. Dubai is trying to position itself as an automotive trade hub in the Gulf region, in competition with Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Its strategy has been underpinned by a series of trade fairs, including Automechanika Gulf, which opens in May featuring at least 550 exhibitors from the supply and after-market sectors.
