The French autos sector is dominated by domestic giants PSA Peugeot Citroën and Renault, which together accounted for around 47% of domestic sales in 2004. This clear local dominance means there is little scope for foreign carmakers to garner market share, but General Motors subsidiary Opel, Ford and Volkswagen are currently the 'best of the rest'.
