GM-SAIC Milestone Project Marks Coming Of Age For Domestic Carmakers
August 2010 | Project NewsGeneral Motors Company (GM) and its Chinese partner Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of fuel efficient engines, which marks the first time a domestic carmaker and international partner have shared technology. The two will develop 1.0 to 1.5-litre direct injection turbocharged gasoline engines, aimed at tapping into the smaller car segment, which is eligible for government tax breaks incentives. The project also endorses BMI's view that government policy will increasingly influence product development.
