Privatisation May Hamper Production Goals
June 2010 | Industry ForecastNigeria has a fledgling auto sector, both in terms of production and sales. Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) is the country's sole manufacturer. According to our estimates, Nigeria produced a meagre 1,340 units in 2009. The government is keen to develop the sector, but in the wake of the economic crisis, it has acknowledged that its ambition of having a vehicle fully produced in Nigeria by 2017 is not achievable and instead has turned its attention to building up the component sector and producing parts that meet Tier I international standards.
