VW On Course To Overtake Toyota Thanks To Record Sales

Germany's Volkswagen (VW) sold a record 6.29mn vehicles during 2009, up 1.1% year-on-year (y-o-y), on the back of its growing presence in emerging markets. Although any increase in sales is impressive during the economic downturn, the carmaker remains firmly on its target of overtaking the world's largest carmaker Toyota Motor in terms of global sales and margins by 2018.
