Reduced Car Import Tariff May Have Limited Impact

The Australian government will halve the import tariff on cars from January 1 2010, but due to free trade agreements (FTAs) and varying tariffs on different vehicle segments, the effects of the cut could be limited. Much will also depend on how much of the savings carmakers choose to pass on to consumers.
