Bridgestone Closes Unprofitable Plant
October 2009 | Industry NewsJapanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone has announced the closure of its plant in Adelaide, marking the withdrawal of the final tyre producer in Australia. Around 600 jobs will be lost at the plant, which has not been profitable for years, according to Bridgestone Australia's senior executive director Andrew Moffat. It marks the biggest departure of a major manufacturer in the automotives industry since Mitsubishi Motors, which was also based in Adelaide, closed in 2008 at a cost of 1,000 jobs.
