Opel Sale Hits Another Roadblock
October 2009 | Industry NewsThe European Commission has warned that German aid for the current bid for Opel, the European operations of leading US auto manufacturer General Motors Company (GM), could contravene European Union (EU) competition rules, suggesting that a new tender could be called for. The statement from the EU's Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes came as Canadian auto parts maker Magna International Inc and Russian state-owned lender Sberbank reportedly neared conclusion of a deal to purchase a majority stake in the troubled carmaker.
