Government Accelerates Electric Car Plans

The South Korean government is aiming to keep the country's automotive industry at the forefront of electric vehicle (EV) development by bringing forward plans to begin mass production. In order to meet new stricter emissions standards being implemented in leading export markets such as the US and EU, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy has now moved the target date for EV mass production from 2013 to H211. The ministry claims that the push will also enable the country to cope with higher fuel prices and follow a path of 'low-carbon growth'.
