Scrappage Schemes Bring Temporary Relief

The slump in UK car production slowed to 17.9% year-on-year (y-o-y), to 107,635 units in July, according to estimates from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Much of the support to July's moderate fall came from the surge in passenger car demand caused by scrappage schemes introduced in Europe.
