Vehicle Output Down By Almost Half

Turkey's automotive production was down by 49% year-on-year (y-o-y) in the five months to May 2009, a worrying trend for one of the country's largest export sectors. Output fell to 310,509 units, according to the Automotive Industry Association (OSD). A breakdown of the data shows that in May alone, total vehicle production fell by 30% to 88,167 units. Within that total, passenger car output was down 18% and commercial vehicle production was 42% lower. Over the January to May period, production of passenger cars fell by 39% and commercial vehicle output was down 60%.
