Toyota Questions Tax Logic

Japan's Toyota Motor has written to the Vietnamese National Assembly suggesting that the priority vehicle segment for lower taxes should be those which have between six and nine seats. This larger segment, mostly comprising of multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), has been hit by the higher Special Consumption Tax (SCT) introduced on April 1. Sales in the combined sports utility vehicle (SUV) and MPV segment fell by 46% year-on-year (y-o-y) in May. However, Toyota argues that the importance of the six-to-nine seat segment means that it should not be discriminated against.
