GM Canada Reaches Union Deal
March 2009 | Industry NewsGeneral Motors of Canada (GM Canada) has reached an agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW), to reduce labour costs as it seeks to prove its viability in exchange for federal loans. CAW's president, Ken Lewenza, said that the agreement, scheduled to be put to a membership vote on March 10 and 11, will 'maintain our Canadian advantage for future investments'. Some believe that the deal does not go far enough, shaving less than CAD10 from the average hourly labour cost of CAD70 per worker.
