Canadian Union Offers Carmakers Support

The Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) has agreed to talks with the 'big three' US carmakers to renegotiate labour agreements. Less than one year into the existing three-year contracts, the union is offering to discuss new wage and benefit deals that would help the companies' restructuring process. CAW's president, Ken Lewenza, told the Globe and Mail that labour costs did not cause the industry's current crisis and will not solve it, 'but we can't ignore the financial state of these companies'.
