Government Supports GM Holden Small Car

General Motors' Australian subsidiary Holden will build a small car for the local market, backed by government financing to encourage the use of more fuel-efficient vehicles. Prompted by a 15.9% drop in sales of large cars in the year to November, GM Holden will build its first small car in two decades from 2010. Mark Reuss, Chairman and Managing Director of GM Holden, told local press that consumers now want smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, which fall in line with the government's new carbon trading scheme.
