Hyundai Plays Catch-Up With Hybrids

South Korean carmaker Hyundai intends to launch its first hybrid model in July 2009, marking a delayed entry into the dual-fuel market. According to the Financial Times, Hyundai will create a hybrid version of its Elantra sedan for sale in South Korea, to be followed by a hybrid Sonata for the North American market in 2010. However, while the Sonata will be a traditional petrol-electric hybrid, the Elantra will be South Korea's first hybrid to run on an electric-propane combination.
