Honda Turkey Does Civic Duty

Japan's Honda Motor has announced plans to expand its plant in Turkey to accommodate growing demand for its Civic model in export markets. The plan involves the investment of TRL22.4mn (US$18.04mn) to take the annual production capacity of the plant near Istanbul from 50,000 units to 63,000 units by mid-2009, while also expanding the workforce from 500 to 1,700 people. The plant produces the Civic and City models for export mostly to Europe, and a statement from Honda claims that demand for the Civic in Russia is one of the driving forces behind the expansion.
