New GM Thailand Plant Is A First

August 2008 | FDI Alert

US carmaker General Motors has announced plans for its first diesel engine plant in South East Asia. Based in Rayong, Thailand, the plant will form part of a US$445mn (THB15bn) investment package that will also include retooling the company's existing vehicle plant on the same site. The plant will produce 2.5- and 2.8-litre diesel engines for the next generation Colorado pick-up truck, which is produced at the nearby vehicle plant. When completed in 2010, the plant will have an initial annual production capacity of 100,000 engines.
