At present, capacity utilisation in the industry stands at just 10%, while 70% of materials used in production are imported; Nigeria's automotive capacity includes 108,000 cars, 56,000 commercial vehicles, 6,000 tractors and 1.2mn motorcycles. The future of the Nigerian automotive sector after privatisation is still uncertain. The size of the domestic market does not justify the level of installed capacity. Nigerian car plants will need to generate interest from foreign partners to inject new capital and extend their reach to the rest of Africa. This will depend on Nigeria's overall business climate,
