Temporary Reprieve For GM Truck Plant
June 2008 | Project NewsThe Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) has announced that a General Motors (GM) plant in Oshawa, Ontario will produce hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pick-up trucks. GM had earmarked the plant for closure in an announcement made on June 3, despite pledging to keep the plant open until 2011 during labour contract negotiations with the CAW just weeks before. While GM has made it clear that the new production project does not change the decision to close the plant in late 2009, CAW representatives are hopeful that this will give the plant and its 2,600 workers
