Holden Delivers Further Blow To Australian Autos Sector
June 2008 | Company News AlertGeneral Motors (GM)' Australian subsidiary, Holden, plans to end production of its four-cylinder Family II engine in Melbourne, adding to the mounting number of job losses in the country's autos industry. Some 531 workers produce the engines at the Fishermans Bend plant, and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) has pledged to negotiate for a new product for the factory, while Holden managing director Mark Reuss made assurances that the company will 'investigate every redeployment possibility'. A statement from Holden also suggested that some workers may be included in plans to raise sales through increased production of the Global V6
