Government Offers Lifeline To GM Canada
June 2008 | Industry NewsCanada's federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has offered General Motors Canada access to the government's US$250mn Automotive Innovation Fund (AIF), following the news of another proposed plant closure by the US carmaker. The funding would enable the company to produce a third model at its passenger car plant in Oshawa, alongside the Impala and the Camaro, which will enter production this year. The AIF was established in the last budget, with the aim of supporting innovation in the field of fuel efficient vehicles.
