End Of The Line For GM Transmission Plant

May 2008 | Company News Alert

General Motors Canada has announced the closure of its transmission plant in Windsor, Ontario due to the lack of a new product to introduce at the plant. In a statement made to the employees of Windsor Transmission, GM Canada president Arturo Elias cited the shift in the market from four-speed automatic transmissions to five- and six-speed transmissions as one of the reasons for having no new product now or in the future for the plant. The closure is scheduled for mid-2010 and will come at a cost of 1,400 jobs.
