Chinese Carmakers Use Turkey As Bridge To Europe

The news that Chinese carmaker Chery plans to produce vehicles in Turkey means not just one new market for the company, but also access to the EU. On announcing that Chery would join with local producer Mermerler Group to produce the Tiggo, Kimo and Alia models, Chery vice president Zhou Biren said that Turkey would become a benchmark for success in Europe, where tastes are similar. Turkey's membership of the EU Customs Union gives Chinese companies the access they need to crack Europe, providing they get past the stringent safety standards.
