Chery Adds To South Africa's Import Brands
February 2008 | Industry NewsChinese carmaker Chery will make its debut in South Africa after finalising a distribution agreement with importer McCarthy. The local distributor already has a range of Chinese brands on its books after establishing a dedicated division for the import, distribution and after-sales servicing of Chinese vehicles. In 2007, the company launched models from Foton and Meiya. It is not yet known which Chery models will be launched in South Africa, although longer-term plans for the region are already in place. Chery chairman Yin Tongyao commented that South Africa would serve as 'a springboard' for expanding into other African markets.
