Record Sales But Job Losses Loom At BMW
January 2008 | Company News AlertGerman carmaker BMW has announced significant job cuts, despite achieving record sales in 2007. According to company sources, as many as 8,000 jobs may go in Germany, around 7.0% of BMW's total workforce in the country. BMW is expected to achieve the job cuts through redundancies and by not replacing retired employees. Hourly workers, particularly those at the carmaker's Leipzig plant, are thought to be in the main line of fire. BMW is seeking to lower labour costs in line with its so-called 'Number One'
