Australia Maintains Robust Comeback

Australia's new vehicle sales for the year to April 2007 have remained at record levels, rising by 9% y-o-y to 330,682 units. This support's BMI's view in its recently published Australia Automotives Report, that a comeback from the 3% decline in 2006 is possible, with sales for 2007 forecast at 992,500 units. While the small and light car segments have traditionally carried sales to some extent, recent months show that a cut in fuel prices has generated a resurgence in the SUV and larger car segments for more rounded industry growth.
