Big Bikes Roll Into Vietnam - But At A Price

In accordance with its World Trade Organisation (WTO) commitments, Vietnam will open up its automotive market to high-cylinder motorcycles (over 175cc) from May 31. At present, the import and distribution of high-cylinder motorcycles is prohibited unless a special permit is granted. There will be no limit on the quantity of 175cc and above bikes entering Vietnam from the end of May, however. The country's ministries of trade, finance, public security and transportation are finalising the decree, which will outline customs procedures, conditions for driving licences, vehicle types to be imported, tax rates and safety and emission
