DaimlerChrysler Set For Indian Plant
May 2007 | FDI AlertDaimlerChrysler is preparing to build a new Indian plant in the Chakan industrial estate, Pune. In response to the growing luxury vehicle market in India, the INR2.75bn (US$67mn) plant will produce the Mercedes C, E and S Class models for the domestic market, incorporating 50% local content in the C Class and slightly less for the S and E Class. DaimlerChrysler India CEO Wilfreid Aulbur cited excise duties as holding back further localisation of production.
