UzDaewoo In Chevrolet Negotiations

Uzbekistan's largest automotive company, UzDaewoo, is negotiating with General Motors for a manufacturing contract to produce Chevrolet models. UzDaewoo manufactured 140,080 vehicles in 2006, an increase of 38.7% y-o-y according to Uzbekistan's State Statistics Committee. This was well above the 115,000 forecast by BMI. UzDaewoo aims to manufacture at least 200,000 units in 2007, nearly twice the level achieved in 2005 when it produced 101,010 units. UzDaewoo currently produces four Daewoo models under licence: the subcompact Nexia, the Matiz city car, the Damas small van and the Lacetti
