Red Tape Holds Back Iran

BMI's Business Environment Ranking for the automotive industry puts Iran joint eighth out of 10, on a composite score of 26. The situation of the Iranian automobile industry has deteriorated since President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's inauguration in August 2005. High long-term political and economic risk along with an extremely protectionist trade-stance, investment restrictions and US sanctions make Iran one of the least-attractive business environments in the Middle East.
