Proton Partnership Talks End

Malaysian national carmaker Proton has faced a setback in its search for a strategic partner, following reports that its talks with France's PSA Peugeot Citroen have come to an end. The talks began in September 2006, as the French group sought out a production base for the ASEAN region, while also looking to expand its Malaysian presence. Proton, meanwhile, is looking for the international support that will enable the company to reclaim its former position as market leader, lost to domestic rival Perodua in 2006.
