European Carmakers Enjoy Mixed Fortunes
March 2007 | Industry NewsThe fortunes of individual autos majors varied considerably in the first 11 months of 2006. Volkswagen maintained its strong lead in the European automotive sector, with production up 5.9% to 3.43mn units. PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault and DaimlerChrysler saw their output fall 2.1%, 8.7% and 6.4% respectively. Renault's output declined as a result of sharp declines in the production of its Megane, Scenic and Modus models. GM saw a decline in the production of almost all its models, including the Astra (-9.4%) and Corsa (-7.9%) models. However, Fiat and Toyota saw their output increase 23.5% and 30.3% respectively.
