Industry Pressure Prompts EU-Turn
February 2007 | Industry NewsFaced with mounting industry opposition, the European Commission has softened its stance on carbon dioxide emissions. In 2006, the EC urged carmakers to cut CO2 emissions to 120g/per km by 2010 from 161g/ per km in 2005. Industry heavyweights operating in Europe, however, have decried the targets and warned of significant job losses on the continent should the EC press ahead.
