December 2006 | BMI View

BMI forecasts stagnation in the Canadian automotive industry in its latest Canada Automotives Report, following reports of a dip in output. Output was down 5.4% y-o-y to 2.44mn units in the January-November period, with truck output down 12.8% y-o-y to 1.08mn units and car output up 1.4% y-o-y to 1.37mn. We have revised our 2006 forecast down from 2.70mn units to 2.55mn units, representing a fall of 4.4% over 2005. Output is set to continue to fall over most of the forecast period, largely due to the decline in the commercial vehicle segment. Production is likely to decline by 0.1-0.7%
